If I were a conspiracy theorist, I'd say executives from American and United begged Bryan Bedford, their old CEO pal from Republic Airways and now the FAA administrator, to extricate them from an ugly, money-losing fight that neither carrier wants: the skirmish over gates at Chicago O’Hare.
